Costa Mesa Police Searching For Arson Suspect
Man is suspected of breaking into garage and starting fire
Law enforcement officers with the Costa Mesa Police Department are currently searching for a male who they suspect broke into a garage on Monday, February 3rd, 2014. They believe he then set the garage on fire.
The suspected arson happened on Mesa Verde Dr. a little after 8:00pm. The detectives state that after the man stole a garage door opener from his former girlfriend, he proceeded to smash a hole in the wall so he could gain access to a neighbor’s garage. After going into the neighbor’s garage, the police believe he then set it on fire.
At the time the fire was started, the homeowners were in the house, but escaped injury. The man left the area after the homeowners called 911. There was some reported damage to the garage caused by smoke. Although the name of the man wasn’t released to the public, the CMPD did say that once caught, the man would be facing charges of burglary & arson.
